Ukulele is a very popular, fun and relatively easy instrument to learn quickly. In the current climate, SMMC hopes to use it as a tool to foster connection among our fellow music students. Join us and SMMC instructor Mr. Drew as we learn to perform songs of hope and inspiration on ukulele. The class will take a look at popular songs with positive messages to help keep our spirits. Our approach to learning new songs will be kept simple to help music students be able to play them quickly. Basic ukulele chords and strum patterns will be used and explained. Scales and melodies will be taught for each song covered. Participants can expect to learn many songs from popular artists such as The Beatles, Matisyahu, Imagine Dragons, Bill Withers and many more!
From week to week, students can expect to reinforce the material from the previous week and learn new material. As the class progresses, students will take on more challenging chords and strum patterns. Students will receive weekly lesson material via email as well as recordings of the class so they can go over any portion of the course at their own pace. During class, students will perform on the ukulele, encouraged to ask questions and interact through the Zoom meeting platform. Students will also be shown video clips of the artists performing their own music as a point of reference and to encourage participants to listen to the music they are learning.
As we continue social distancing, it becomes important for everyone to feel like they are still part of a group. In “Ukulele Songs of Hope” SMMC will inspire participants through music to learn, create and remind them they are not alone. Join us!
