You Can Uke-A Beginner Ukulele Class!
These days, ukuleles are all the rage with music lovers young and old and there is good reason. Many popular artists across different genres of music have used the ukulele’s sound to help write hit singles. This includes artists like Jason Mraz, Train, Jack Johnson, and Israel Kamakawiwoʻole just to name a few. Throw in the song Lava or music from the movie Moana and it’s not hard to understand why ukulele is as popular as it’s ever been!
Popularity aside, the ukulele is a great instrument to learn for anyone at any age! Compared to other string instruments, it is relatively easy to learn. The soft nylon strings make it easy on the fingertips for a beginner. Unlike a guitar that has six strings, the ukulele only has four, making it less daunting to learn the notes on the strings. The size of the instrument makes it easier to play by reducing wrist tension as it’s easier to grip chord shapes. It’s also a very portable instrument that can be taken on the road for any summer vacation, making practice and progress much more accessible. The small size of the instrument also makes it much more affordable than a guitar.
In this week long course, students will learn proper left and right hand technique in playing the instrument. Students will learn scales and exercises to help strengthen both hands and they will learn several different chord shapes that are found in popular and traditional ukulele songs. Students will also learn different strumming patterns that can be applied to a wide range of songs, adding variety to your music playing. Don’t have a ukulele? Not a problem-students without an instrument will be supplied one to use for the class duration. Ukuleles can also be purchased from our shop so participants have something to take home with them to practice.
The class is open to six students. Don’t delay and get on board today!
